Since the 1950s, pharmacy's share of pet medicine sales has declined from about 80% to a current level of 10%. However, with an estimated 26 million companion animals in the UK, and a pet care market worth around ú200 million, there is enormous potential for pharmacists in pet medicine sales. In addition there is a public health dimension resulting from the interaction between humans and animals.
