INTRODUCTION
This presentation explores the latest research and clinical findings related to saturated, unsaturated, and trans fats. Clinical conditions necessitating a reduction or increase in dietary intake of fat are explored. Emphasis is placed on patient education to promote a balanced diet.
After completing this activity, the participant should be able to:
- 1. discuss the current research and clinical findings related to saturated, unsaturated, and trans fats.
- 2. list medical diagnoses that necessitate fat restriction and those that necessitate addition of dietary fat along with guidelines for corrective measures.
- 3. identify additional dietary elements important for optimal health.
- 4. discuss ways to counsel patients regarding a balanced nutritional approach versus fad diets.
