Most people who have taken a course in human neuroanatomy
will probably tell you it was one of the most difficult courses
they ever took. Ask why, and they'll tell you about the hours they
spent trying to remember the names and locations of countless
neuroanatomical structures.
Now imagine having a learning aid that reduces hours from your
study time and is fun to use!
Brainiac! is a state of the art human neuroanatomy atlas that goes
beyond the pages of an ordinary textbook. No more turning pages and
covering up the names with your hands. Now you can easily follow the
path of each structure through its extent in the brain. Brainiac!'s intuitive
"point and click" interface allows you to quickly and easily navigate
through the central nervous system. Whether you're learning
neuroanatomy for the first time or need a quick review, Brainiac! is for you.
Brainiac helps bridge the gap left by traditional neuroanatomy atlases
by providing functional information about each brain region. Color coding
of structures by function and afferent/efferent connections are just
some of the additional information that Brainiac! users benefit from.
Learn At Your Own Pace
Brainiac! consists of four different modules. These include Gyri, Coronal,
Horizontal and Pal-Weigert stained sections. in the Pal-Weigert module, a
section map displayed on a sagittal MRI allows you to see on which of the
27 sections a structure appears. Reoiew mode enables you to browse
structures at different levels, then switch to test mode to gauge your knowledge.
In review mode you can click on the name of a structure from a list and the
corresponding area will be highlighted on-screen. Or, you can click on an
area in the brain section and be shown the name of that structure.
In test mode you can choose either show structure or show name of
structure. in show structure, structures are randomly highlighted and
you must select the name of the structure from the list on the screen.
In show name of structure you click on the region in the picture that
corresponds to the name of the structure that you are asked to identify.
Correct and incorrect answers are
recorded and you are presented with a
final average score when the end of
the list is reached.
Brainiac! is packed with all these valuable features
- Separate Gyri, Pal-Weigert stained sections from
spinal cord through the thalamus, Coronal and
Horizontal modules -- over 50 brain sections
- Easy "point and click" interface
- Review and test mode with scoring in test mode
- Section map screens allow you to see all the levels of the
brain at which a particular structure is located and then
jump to that level by clicking on the section number
- Functional neuroanatomy
- color coding of structures by function
- major system associations
- afferent and efferent connections
- Brodman maps in gyri module
- "Follow structure" buttons allow you to quickly and
automatically follow the course of a particular structure
- Instructor Customization Utility allows structures to
be removed/replaced to the atlas. (Available only in
Instructor Version)
An Invaluable Tool For Professors
Brainiac! is a comprehensive tool for
teaching medical and graduate students. It
can also be customized for use in undergraduate
courses. The Instructor Customization Utility,
allows structures to be easily removed/
replaced from the atlas allowing you to tailor Brainiac! to suit
your course needs. Multiple versions can be hept on the same
computer for teaching students at different levels.
Currently in use at universities throughout the USA, Europe, Australia, China, Israel, South America, New Zealand and Canada
