Nursing - Critical & Intensive Care
This CD-ROM instructional program will assist the learner in understanding the features, functions and nursing care required for airway patency. Mastery of this program will enable the learner to:
- Identify the purpose for an outer and inner cannula, inflatable cuff, neck plate and obturator.
- Understand the patient care focus related to secretion management, prevention of infection, emergency readiness and support resources.
- Compare the size of the suction catheter to the tracheostomy tube size.
- Identify when the principles of medical asepsis are utilized.
- Determine the range of suction pressure required to aspirate secretions.
- Conduct an assessment of the respiratory and circulatory system prior to and following the aspiration of secretions.
- Explain the nursing responsibilities related to tracheostomy cuff care, cleansing the inner cannula and wound site, and changing ties on the tube.
