This CD is designed and produced to meet the needs of all physicians in accordance with ACCME essentials, raise awareness, and present the preventative measures and treatment protocols for burn injuries, with the goal of potentially saving the lives of patients.
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Explain, in detail, the specific statistics regarding the major advances in the understanding and care of burn injuries and the results of those advances.
- Define, in detail, the definition of Burn injury and how such injuries are quantified.
- Identify and explain the specific factors at various stages of the burn syndrome.
- Define all common potential risk factors in the treatment of minor burns.
- Understand, explain, and give rationale for the pre-hospital treatment, assessment, and transfer of burn patients.
- List and define with full explanation the initial hospital treatment and its stages for burn patients and give an accurate prognosis.
- Use the provided worksheets to calculate %of body burn and calculate fluids with Parkland formula.
- Analyze and define topical antimicrobial agents and their descriptions, actions, adverse affects and so forth.
- Identify, explain, and describe the processes involved in the closure of the burn wound.
- Describe the process, considerations, and focus of nutrition in burn patients.
- Identify, explain, and describe the potential complications, benefits, and processes in burn patient rehabilitation.
- Explain the various types of burns and their specific differences in treatment.
- Describe various burn prevention movements.
- The mission, goals, and objectives for this CD program were created in direct response to the need for information stated by physicians in a national survey.
