The first formal Validation Training
Program can now be yours! Developed under the direction of Validation
founder and renowned training expert Naomi Feil, this ready-to-use,
multimedia program is easily adapted to work in as little as a
2-hour intensive session or a full semester course. Teaching components
include separate manuals for two levels of instruction plus overheads
and accompanying videos that can be purchased together in one
handy carrying case or as individual components.
The Level 1 training manual introduces
the theory of Validation and its basic concepts. Through the use
of visual aids, exercises, role-playing and activities, participants
will
- gain insight into the aging process
and the world of disoriented older adults
- practice empathy with disoriented older
people
- integrate the principles of Validation
into daily work with older adults
The Level 2 training manual introduces
advanced practice and assessment skills in Validation using interactive
exercises that teach participants to
- understand and use all verbal and nonverbal
Validation techniques
- match appropriate techniques to individual
clients
- successfully build trusting relationships
with disoriented older people
Ready-to-use overheads and videos reinforce
the program's content. Each video features two segments. In the
video "Coping," The Seminar Group and 100
Years to Live reveal healthy and unhealthy coping methods
that contribute to the well-being or disorientation of very old
adults. In the video "Resolution," Naomi Feil demonstrates
important Validation concepts through role plays. The first segment
shows the Four Stages of Resolution; then, in Myrna
-- the Mal-Oriented, an 86-year-old woman exhibits the typical
behaviors in dementia, including wandering, anger, and confusion,
until a Validation worker intervenes.
