Molecular Biology
Contains citations and abstracts for papers with molecular sequence data from MEDLINE; and nucleotide sequences from GenBank and protein sequences from Protein Identification Resource (PIR). Consists of three disks: Entrez 1 contains MEDLINE references; Entrez 2 contains protein sequences; and Entrez 3 contains DNA sequences. Each issue is cumulative.
From the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), this bimonthly three-disc subscription lets genetic researchers rapidly search and retrieve:
- Nucleotide and protein sequence information from nine automated
- MEDLINE bibliographic citations in the order in which the sequences were published-- and a sequence-associated subset of MEDLINE
- MEDLINE abstracts include relevant Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) index terms from the National Library of Medicine's controlled indexing vocabulary. CD ROMs are updated cumulatively.
- Entrez's advanced retrieval software-- for both Windows and Macintosh systems-- features a powerful, intuitive search technique called "neighboring."
- Navigate the multidatabase structure via "hard links"
- Query by organism name using the NCBI's comprehensive phylogenetic taxonomy
- View sequence and bibliographic records in a variety of formats
- Includes 35-page user's guide and tutorial
