Area of Focus: Foot & Ankle
Demonstrates how to use these anatomic landmarks and a free autologous hamstring graft to reconstruct the lateral ligaments of the ankle. Lateral ligamentous insufficiency of the ankle can significantly compromise athletic participation and activities of daily living. Historically, treatment was limited to non-operative methods focusing on proprioceptive training, strengthening, and bracing. Surgical intervention for recalcitrant instability focused on techniques that either imbricated native tissues or re-established lateral ligamentous structures via nonanatomic reconstructions.
